Is sorness okay after a massage?

Post Massage soreness/discomfort –

Everyone's body is different and sometimes soreness happens after a massage.  One explanation is the muscles are not used to it and often respond with soreness. Similar to when you have had a hard workout.  As your body becomes accustomed to massage you should be less sore after.   Another explanation has to do with the central nervous system.  Massage provides a significant amount of input into the central nervous system.  Pain and occasional after-effects may be the result of a system that received more information than it could handle.  If you are sore symptoms usually resolve in 24 to 72 hours.

An epsom salt bath, hot tub and drinking plenty of water after the massage can ease the discomfort.  Another good rule of thumb is to let your therapist know if the pressure is feeling too deep.  Like exercise make bodywork a habit for optimal health.
