Why do they Massage the Gluteal Muscles or more COMMONLY called the Butt ?
The buttocks muscles called the gluteal muscles are massaged to help alleviate sciatica or to relieve tension that often contributes to low back pain, hip pain and lower leg pain and stiffness. Many people spend a lot of time sitting and this leads to increased muscle tension in the gluteal muscles. In addition, we use these muscles every step we take! No wonder they become tight.
The gluteal muscles consist of the gluteus maximus, gluteus minimus and gluteus medius. There are also a group of six smaller muscles deep to the gluteal muscles that mainly act to laterally rotate the femur. The gluteal muscles can be massaged over the sheet very effectively to reduce muscle tension and pain.
